A Focus on Others

Lots of people recycle and give back to the community, but Courtney Slanaker and her team at World Care take it to a whole new level. Their passion for recycling and reusing surplus supply in the community helps them to give back in three major areas: education, health and disaster relief.

Founded almost twenty years ago by Lisa Hopper with the intent to provide areas in need with basic resources, World Care has morphed into an agency that strives to reduce waste, redistribute resources, and re-use all supplies in an effort to keep them out of landfills and supply the community and areas of disaster with the resources needed.  World Care has extended a helping hand not only to their local community in Arizona, but to nations all over the globe when a disaster has occurred.

They are heartedly striving to become the go-to relief agency in the southwest. Not only because of the resources they provide, but because of their transparency and accountability. Their openness allows any donor a view into their day-to-day operations, ensuring their donation, whether monetary or physical resources, goes to a worthy cause.

“We do our best with the assets that we have to redistribute donated supplies and resources to local communities or individuals in need, while also still gathering resources for disaster relief programs.” Courtney mentioned. “As a nonprofit, our time is given to those in need and we try to spend it all on giving back.”


Every Minute Counts

Courtney quickly realized that what makes the World Care team efficient in helping with recycling, education, health and disaster relief programs is the ability to focus on their passion and not on HR and administrative tasks, including payroll, that come along with running any business. “Previously, we were with a company for about four to five years and it was so hard to get a hold of our rep or even support,” Courtney said.

“I was tired of calling a 1-800 number to trying to remember a region code to only get to the end of a phone call without receiving a person on the end who could help me make a change in our payroll. This would take up much of my time throughout the day.”

After taking on the responsibilities of Executive Director, Courtney met a BenefitMall rep who explained what BenefitMall could offer World Care in terms of service and technology. This was everything that World Care needed. 

“We now have client support that I don’t have to call a 1-800 number for and it is fantastic,” Courtney states. “The client services, access and feasibility to support and our local office has been great offering us the tools and resources we need as a nonprofit.”
